The town of Windermere is a very secluded area in Orange County. This is not a small city, but a small town, built on an isthmus. That is a small strip of land surrounded by water.

The Butler Chain of Lakes surrounds this quaint enclave, some of the lushest and beautiful lakes in the Orlando area. Windermere was founded in 1888, and chartered in 1925. Its century-old one-room schoolhouse, painstakingly restored, still stands in the charming downtown area. The exclusive area offers gated communities, however, engineers have designed the area to be mostly free of outside traffic with roundabouts and limited access. With a population of just over 3,900, residents can enjoy the feel of a small town within a booming city.

Windermere is also one of the most sought-after areas in Orange County for those looking for estate living. A Jack Nicklaus designed golf course and country club, Golden Bear Country Club, and nearby Isleworth Golf and Country Club designed by Arnold Palmer is prestigious. A magnet for the best golfers in the world, residents of the area have included both Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods. Prices for some of the mega-mansions in the area have topped 100 million at a whopping 90,000 square feet.

However, you don’t have to be a billionaire to live in this lovely area teeming with oak canopied yards and panoramic water views. There are villas, townhomes, condos, and single family homes under the one million range, too, and a wonderful array of floor plans and styles for vacation properties and investments.

There’s also good reason families settle in Windermere. Excellent schools, minutes to Disney and Downtown Orlando, and the best of shopping at nearby Mall of Millenia make this slice of paradise living even more appealing.
